Returning to the stage of Unione Musicale is the Belcea String Quartet, one of the most highly acclaimed chamber ensembles on the international scene, celebrated for the refinement and expressive intensity of its performances, as well as for the breadth of its repertoire, which also includes numerous new commissions.
A defining feature of the Belcea Quartet – comprising Romanian violinist Corina Belcea, Korean-Australian violinist Suyeon Kang, Polish violist Krzysztof Chorzelski, and French cellist Antoine Lederlin – has always been the meeting of diverse musical influences and traditions, which blend together with remarkable conviction into a homogeneous, refined, and expressive style.
Violist Krzysztof Chorzelski commented on this aspect: “Compared to our beginnings, the identity of the Belcea Quartet has changed, but one thing has remained the same: the members come from different countries, schools, and traditions. I believe that this diversity, together with our shared desire to perform at the highest level, has become one of our greatest strengths. These differences enrich the way we play, creating a kind of tension that pushes us beyond our limits and encourages us to enjoy taking risks.”
