Joshua Bell, one of the most charismatic and beloved violinists on the international scene, returns to Unione Musicale.
Honoured in 2025 with the Commander of the British Empire (CBE) distinction for his artistic merits as musical director — for over fourteen years — of the legendary Academy of St Martin in the Fields in London, Bell embodies a style of violin playing that is at once aristocratic and sweeping. His 1713 Stradivarius, once owned by Bronisław Huberman, produces a sound that critics have described as “exceptionally clear, focused and warm.”
By his side will be pianist Peter Dugan, his favourite musical partner, praised by critics for his ability to “move from the most delicate subtlety to the most unbridled energy with consummate ease.” Together, the two artists form a duo of rare chemistry, one we very much look forward to hearing.
The evening’s programme is a journey between classical elegance and twentieth-century ardour: from the celebrated Chaconne from Bach’s Partita No. 2 — the absolute pinnacle of violin literature — to the expressive intensity of the Sonata by John Corigliano, one of the most significant American composers of our time, by way of Beethoven and Saint-Saëns.
