In Solo in Due, Giovanna Baviera revives the ancient practice of cantar alla viola, in which voice and instrument merge into a single expressive presence. A refined art, now rarely encountered, it lies at the heart of the Italo-Irish musician’s artistic research, bringing together the study of historical sources with the performance of newly commissioned works and the composition of original music.
Alongside Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces by Sandrin, Arcadelt, Caccini and Hume, the programme features contemporary works by Simon MacHale, Eva Reiter and Giovanna Baviera herself.
