Irène Duval, Steven Isserlis and Claus-Christian Schuster represent different generations and artistic paths, yet they are united by a profound devotion to chamber music.

Duval is one of the most distinctive violinists of her generation, praised for her “energy that is at once poised and fearless, her chamber music intelligence, and her musical refinement” (Only the Music). Isserlis is one of the most admired figures on the international music scene, celebrated not only as a cellist but also as a teacher, author, and tireless advocate for music. Schuster, meanwhile, has left an enduring mark on the history of chamber music as pianist of the legendary Altenberg Trio Vienna, as well as through his work as a teacher and musicologist.

Although their artistic paths have crossed on several occasions, opportunities to hear the three musicians perform together are exceptionally rare. Their appearance at Unione Musicale is therefore a particularly special occasion, not to be missed.

The programme itself reflects the spirit of their friendship through a constantly changing succession of instrumental combinations: from the solo violin of Bach’s monumental Chaconne to the dialogue between cello and piano in Henriëtte Bosmans’ Impressions, from Ravel’s Duo for Violin and Cello to Monique Gabus’s work for solo cello, and Dvořák’s Four Romantic Pieces for violin and piano. Only in the concluding work, Schumann’s Fantasiestücke Op. 88, do all three artists finally come together, bringing to fulfilment a musical journey in which each instrumental combination prepares for and illuminates the final encounter.
