Some musical encounters seem almost inevitable. The collaboration between the Lyskamm Quartet and clarinettist Pablo Barragán is founded on a shared vision of chamber music: the joy of listening to one another, of exploring together, and of shaping a single, unified sound.
On one side stands the Lyskamm Quartet, an ensemble that has earned widespread recognition for the depth of its engagement with the repertoire, its remarkable interpretative cohesion, and its distinctive musical identity. On the other is Pablo Barragán, an artist of compelling personality, admired for his unmistakable tone and his innate gift for chamber music. Audiences at Unione Musicale may remember his acclaimed appearance with the Sitkovetsky Trio in 2023.
The programme brings together two masterpieces of German Romanticism. Schumann’s String Quartet No. 2 in F major, Op. 41 No. 2 opens the evening with music of radiant lyricism, in which the four instruments converse with extraordinary freedom and imagination. In the second half, the clarinet joins the strings for Brahms’s Clarinet Quintet, Op. 115, one of the supreme achievements of nineteenth-century chamber music: a score in which each voice retains its own individuality while contributing to a sound world of exceptional richness and balance.
